"I work every day fighting for the people of Hillsborough — fighting for tax cuts for hard working families, help for local small businesses, and good paying jobs. I have always stood with our teachers and students and will protect the land and water that make Florida so special. That’s what I do every day, because it's my job."

Get to know Senator Cruz
A fourth generation Tampa native, Janet was inspired to fight for our neighborhoods and stand up for our families by running for the Florida House. She has been a fierce advocate for stronger schools for our students, affordable and accessible healthcare for every family, and supporting our small businesses.

In 2018, after the Parkland shooting, Janet’s State Senator failed to show up for a vote on a common sense gun safety bill. Senator Cruz knew then she had to step up and run for State Senate, and she won. She’s running for re-election because she knows that the work is far from finished and Florida’s families deserve a champion in the state legislature.

Janet and her husband, Steve, live in Tampa. She has four children: Ana, Raymond, Stephen and Laura.
